$173M in federal funding announced for affordable housing

CHICAGO — Federal leaders announced Thursday $173 million dollars in funding will be available for affordable housing projects.

The funding is expected to benefit low-income families in Chicago and across the country.

The acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was joined by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Congressman Danny Davis and other local housing leaders and Thursday’s announcement.

Of the $173 million dollars that will be distributed more than $11 million dollars will go to renovations at Archer Courts in Chinatown.

Building management say the money will be used to address the aging heating and water systems, upgrade the ventilation system and add a rooftop solar system.

Austin Renaissance apartments on Chicago’s West Side will be receiving more than $5 million for repairs as well.
