A swimmer who disappeared after reportedly being attacked by a shark remains missing.
The man, who has not been named, disappeared on Wildcat Beach in northern California on Sunday morning.
The US Coast Guard confirmed it called off a search for him yesterday morning.
Coast Guard petty officer Hunter Schnabel said: “We didn’t find the individual so there’s no way for us to confirm whether or not it was a shark attack.”
The man was with a small group when he disappeared. One member of the group had told officials that he went missing after a shark attack.
On Sunday, members of the Coast Guard, the National Park Service, and the fire service were involved in the search.
The search party included two helicopters, the park service said.
Wildcat Beach is located at the Point Reyes National Seashore a coastline with around 80 miles (128km) of shoreline, including a long stretch of beach.
