Evil Geniuses are fighting to remain relevant with their first batch of crucial re-matches. Meanwhile, the best teams of the LCS this season are jointly atop the standings so far in the spring campaign. Cloud and Team Liquid have both won seven of nine matches to top the LCS spring season.
Can a resurgent Cloud9 team maintain their current run of excellent form, or will Team Liquid cement first for the remainder of the split? We break down this coming weekend’s games from the LCS.
Narratives, Narratives Everywhere
One of the narratives that must be covered is the struggle of Evil Geniuses so far. They have won just four of nine matches, which is well below their expected level of output. They finished as runners-up in the lock-in ahead of the spring season. This weekend, they will face Immortals, who have the same record, on Saturday before playing against the table toppers in Cloud9 on Sunday. EG are favorites against Immortals but have odds of x2.30 in their match against Cloud9, which is quite favorable from a betting standpoint. Both re important re-matches for EG, as these are the first duels they lost this season.
Another one to look forward to is 100 Thieves facing Liquid on Saturday. Both teams have been in fine form this season as well as in 2021. 100 Thieves are presently third in the LCS standings with a 5-4 record but have lost their last two matches. Liquid are arguably the best team on paper this season, which could make this match one to watch for.
Bot laner Hans Sama has been in stunning form so far, with 3.78 kills, 1.78 deaths and 5.67 assists per map at a KDA of 5.31 with a creep score of 329.44. Bjergsen has been in unstoppable form so far this split, with returns of 2.78 kills, 0.78 deaths and 5.56 assists per map at a KDA of 10.71. These two in the mid and bot lane have been responsible for Liquid’s incredible progress so far this split.
If TL cements another 2-0 week, they are likely to remain 1st until the end of the split, as the schedule only gets easier from here on out.
The FlyQuest Angle
FlyQuest have fallen away after a terrific start to the split. They have lost their last three matches to fall dramatically to 5-4 for the season, which is fourth in the split. Just last week, they were at the top of the table. Bot laner Johnsun has been their most prolific offensive player, producing returns of 4.11 kills, 2.11 deaths and 5.22 assists per map at a KDA of 4.42 and a creep score of 330.78. They start as favorites in their matchup against TSM on Saturday but have an even money matchup in their next, against Dignitas on Sunday. The second of those fixtures seem to be more compelling, in risk to reward terms.
Betting on FlyQuest to beat Dignitas on Sunday will fetch you odds of x1.85 on Betway, which is not bad for a team that seems to have enough depth and desperate to put to an end their poor run of recent form.
