An elderly married couple from Gurnee were hospitalized with minor injuries after their car crashed into a utility pole Wednesday morning along Route 45 south of Rollins Road just west of Gurnee, officials said.
The couple’s two dogs, who were in the back seat at the time of the crash, were not hurt, a spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies drove the dogs to their home.
Investigators believe the crash happened because the man driving failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
The crash snapped the utility pole at the base, said Gurnee Battalion Chief James Pellitteri.
The driver and passenger both were stable when they were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Pellitteri said.
The roadway was closed while ComEd officials dealt with the power lines, officials said.
