An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to the scene Saturday night after a fire broke out in the basement of a home on Skeena Avenue.

Ottawa Fire said it received a 911 call at 10: 14 p.m. from a homeowner saying there was black smoke coming from the basement of the home in the area across the Rideau River from Hog’s Back Park, near the corner of Prince of Wales Drive and Meadowlands Drive.
The residents were told to wait outside until fire crews arrived. Firefighters described a heavy odour of smoke coming from the home.
Smoke and flames were visible when firefighters entered the home. The fire was declared under control at 10: 45 p.m.
There were no reported injuries.
