Just two weeks ago, the hospital announced an overnight emergency department closure spanning the same time frame, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. The same type of closure occurred from from July 15 to Aug. 3, and again on Sept. 3-4.

A media release from September stated the team was still actively recruiting staff members at a time when nursing shortages have made things challenging.

“Our communities are reminded to call 9-1-1 if (anyone is) experiencing severe shortness of breath, chest pain, severe bleeding, or periods of unconsciousness. Paramedics will remain available to the community and will re-route to the nearest available Emergency Department to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need,” a hospital media release said.

“For non-urgent health care, call Health Connect Ontario at 8-1-1, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health related questions. If you have a family doctor, you can also inquire about any same-day appointments or after-hours clinics. The closest 24-hour Emergency Departments to HGMH are: Cornwall Community Hospital and Hawkesbury General Hospital.”

Other hospitals accessible that aren’t as close, but still available include the Winchester District Memorial Hospital and, in Ottawa, the General campus of The Ottawa Hospital and the Montfort Hospital.
