TV favorite Jung Ga-eun has been cast in her first leading role in a movie at the ripe age of 45.
Jung said she hopes to show off her acting chops gained in TV dramas and sitcoms since her late debut in 2008.
Speaking at a press event in Seoul on Thursday, Jung said she was incredulous when offered the leading role in “An Insignificant Life.”
“At first I thought, is this for real?” she said. “Am I good enough to star in a movie?” But she realized that the character she was asked to play has many similarities with herself, and that gave her the confidence to delve into it.
“An Insignificant Life” is a fantasy melodrama about a woman who is about to die and travels back in time to meet her former lovers and find love again.
In her 20s Jung’s dream was to be a good wife, she said, but after she finally tied the knot with a businessman in 2016 she realized she would have to take responsibility for her own life and divorced two years later.
Being a single mother has changed her. “My daughter is what keeps me going. After I had my child, I became a go-getter,” she said.
