(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Richard Bachmann as chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Malacañang confirmed Wednesday.
Bachmann, who served as commissioner of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and general manager of the defunct Alaska Aces in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), will replace Noli Eala after only four months on the job.
“Yes,” was the brief reply of Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) Officer in Charge Cheloy Garafil in a text message when asked about the development.
The PSC is the main government agency tasked with the development of sports and athletes in the country, with umbrella authority over the various national sports associations.
The OPS also confirmed the appointment of former Cebu City sports commission chief Edward Hayco and Walter Torres as PSC commissioners.

Hayco and Torres, who were formally sworn in by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, joins bowling Hall of Famer Olivia “Bong” Coo at the PSC Board.
The Palace has yet to release the appointment of the new sports officials.
