There’s nothing quite like a celebrity transformation, especially when it comes to soap stars who look nothing like their on-screen characters.
They’re always all over our TV screens and social media, so when one of our favourites debut a new look – whether it be a hairstyle or a head to toe rebrand – we take note.
Here, we’ve rounded up six soap stars who have proudly shown off their transformations.
From EastEnders actors to Coronation Street legends, all have made these changes safely.
Alan Halsall – Tyrone Dobbs, Coronation Street
Corrie star Alan Halsall has been on the cobbles since 1998, and we’ve watched him go through a lot on screen.
Off screen, he’s been sticking to a workout regime since 2018, and revealed that he’d hired a personal trainer.
Speaking to Digital Spy in the same year, he said he’d been working with the trainer for “four or five months.”
“I have a pre-workout meal, I work out, then I have a post-workout meal or a swim and a steam.
“I can come here and learn my lines. You can pretty much spend the day here,” he said.
Sophie Austin – Lindsey Roscoe, Hollyoaks
Following the birth of her daughter, Willow, ex-Hollyoaks actor Sophie Austin said she felt like she’d “lost her glow.”
After admitting she lost her body confidence, she told Women’s Health that she “was in a pretty bad place” and knew she needed “to make a change.”
“I just looked really sad and lost and I said to my fiancé, Shayne [Ward], ‘That’s not me, I’ve lost my glow.’ It wasn’t so much the weight, it was the [lack of] confidence that really got to me – I didn’t recognise myself,” she said.
However, after signing up to the gym in Cheshire with Shayne, she said she felt no pressure and her trainer focused on her “mental state” just as much as her “physical.”
Harry Visinoni – Seb Franklin, Coronation Street
Another Corrie actor has shared his weight loss journey, too. Harry Visinoni, who plays Seb Franklin in the soap, took to Instagram to tell his followers he’s feeling “stronger than ever.”
The 23 year old posted a topless snap showing his chiselled abs alongside a shot of his fitness trainer.
“It just goes to show that with dedication and hard work, you can make big changes to your life in not much time at all,” he wrote.
“Looking forward to continuing this journey of getting better and stronger.”
Natalie Cassidy – Sonia Fowler, EastEnders
After overhauling her lifestyle, EastEnders actor Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia Fowler, has gone from a size 16 to an 8.
Admitting her “downfall” was snacks like cheese, crisps and dips, the 39 year old told The Sun: “I cut out rubbish. I cut down on alcohol too, even though I love white wine.”
As well as opting for a healthier diet, Natalie also took up fitness, and completed the London Marathon in 2019.
Speaking on the podcast RunPod, she explained how the running group helps to keep her motivated.
“We’ve suddenly become this little team of people and we’re so close,” she said.
“We’ve got WhatsApp groups and we go out together and we post our runs and it gives you motivation.”
Katie McGlynn – Sinead Tinker, Coronation Street
Former Corrie star Katie McGlynn also shared her fitness journey with her followers. After leaving the soap in 2019, the 29 year old admitted that during the last few weeks of filming, her schedule was so busy that it meant she was often eating unhealthily and couldn’t get to the gym.
However, after bidding farewell to the cobbles, she began a 12-week programme at the Ultimate Performance Gym in Manchester.
“I’ve trained hard, I’ve been lifting weights, and eating the right food. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been and I have much more energy,” she said at the time.
Catherine Tyldesley – Eva Price, Coronation Street
Corrie’s Eva Price has famously opened up about losing weight. The 39 year old has always been candid about going from a size 22 to 10, but stressed how important it is to do it healthily.
“I took control of my weight, and I slowly and steadily lost more than five stone,” the actor told The Sun.
“Along the way, I learned to understand just how important a healthy, balanced diet is. It sparked my huge interest in healthy living and nutrition.”
In 2020, she said: “Since I have had Alfie [her son] things are no longer about weight-loss, it is just about being on the planet for as long as possible.”
“After my programme is finished, I won’t stop. I’m going to carry on with it, because I have a taste for fitness now.”
