Naomi Osaka is getting into the skincare business. Osaka has announced the launch of Kinló, her very own skincare company. The products are curated especially for people of dark skin tones.
The name of the skincare brand is said to be inspired by her Japanese and Haitian roots. Kin means “gold” in Japanese, and ló means “gold” in Haitian Creole. In an interview with Business of Fashion, Osaka opened up about the new venture, explaining how her upcoming skincare line will differ from other celebrity-endorsed products on the market. “For me, this project is something that requires more than just being a spokesperson. This is a public health need,” Osaka said. “I used to tell people that I didn’t need to wear sunscreen — but even if you have melanin, you need to take care of your skin, and I am passionate about that.”
“I never thought I would ever start my own company, but I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be launching KINLÒ, a new brand of skincare products developed to protect and rejuvenate melanated skin tones. I hope these products can help a lot of people and potentially save lives because I really feel that we aren’t protecting ourselves as much as we could,” she announced on Instagram.
While the official launch date hasn’t been announced yet, it has been reported that all products will be sold for under $20 (Rs 1477 approximately), making it an incredibly affordable skincare collection.
The budding mogul also revealed that she is launching her first swimsuit line, a collaboration with Frankies Bikinis. The collection includes the Osaka one-piece, which features a trendy collared polo top and a tie at the waist.
