Taxi fares in Seoul will increase by W1,000 next month (US$1=W1,232).
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the fare will increase to W4,800 starting Feb. 1, the first hike in four years.
The initial distance for the basic charge will also be shortened from the current 2 km to 1.6 km, and the meter will be ticking faster, from W100 per 132 m to 131 m, or W100 per 31 seconds to 30 seconds.
